The Globe wins 35 awards of excellence from the Society for News Design
The Society for News Design has announced the results of its annual Best of News Design print competition. The Globe and Mail received 35 awards of excellence and a silver medal for our staff design portfolio (a new record for the organization). The next highest award count was achieved last year, when The Globe took home 27 in total. A few noteworthy wins from this year:
- Our staff design portfolio received a silver medal. Judges noted that “They can handle everything: photography, typography, illustration. It’s really well-balanced.”
- The Frozen Frontline and Year in Photos projects both won awards of excellence in the Print & Digital Combination category
- The Future Cities paper takeover took home an award of excellence for Special Coverage
- The Saturday Opinion section won an award for section design
- 13 awards for front pages, including a number of pandemic A1s, Black Live Matter coverage, US election night, Flight 752, and Bias Behind Bars
- 9 awards for illustration, and an award of excellence for staff art direction
